Upper Mustang Trek to hidden paradise of Mustang, which is known as Mini Tibet or Mountain Desert that visitors experience ever best holiday trip in their life in Nepal. Nepal Government Department of Immigration started this forbidden Kingdom to issue only a small number of special trekking permits since 1992. Before 1992 the region was banned to visit for foreigners.
As everywhere in the Himalayas, this area provides spectacular mountain scenery highlighted by Dhaulagiri at 8167 meters (26,795ft) and Annapurna I at 8091 meters (26,545ft). You will surround by more than 35 mountains over 6000 meters (19,680ft) high. The elevation of this trails rise from 2815 meters (9,233ft) to 3780 meters (12,398ft) above sea level. Strong winds generally howl across the area in the afternoon, generally subsiding at night. The trek to Mustang is through an almost treeless barren landscape Being in the rain shadow of the Himalaya, Mustang has much less rain then the rest of Nepal.
Trek to Mustang allows the travelers to witness heavenly beautiful Trans-Himalaya landscape, ancient Tibetan Buddhist shrines such as Stupas, Chhortens, Kaanis, Prayers walls, centuries old monasteries and isolated region is incredibly satisfying one for those who want to experience the hospitality and warmth of the locals living in this remote area.
After arrival at Kathmandu International Airport an ‘Region Treks’s representative will take you to your hotel in town. You will be briefed about your trek and there will be time to walk around in the vicinity of the hotel. Evening Meal in the hotel.
After breakfast we offer a guide for a tour of the Kathmandu valley with visits to the Pashupatinath Temples, Durbar Square and the Boudhanath Stupa. If preferred you can have a free day. Evening meal in the hotel.
In the morning, we drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, which takes about 6 hours. There’s also an option to fly at an additional cost. Reaching Pokhara, you can enjoy a boat ride or walk around the lake with your guide. Shopping opportunities are excellent in this backpackers’ paradise. Breakfast, lunch, dinner included (B,L,D).
Early in the morning, we take a short, scenic flight to Jomsom, and from there begin a two-hour trek to Kagbeni through the windy Kali Gandaki valley. Kagbeni is a typical Nepali town, with streets crowded with livestock, an ancient monastery and international trekkers starting or ending their journeys. (B,L,D).
After official inspection of our permits, we enter the Upper Mustang area through the Kali Gandaki bank. The trail is windy and sandy. We pass white-washed houses and fields of seasonal crops at Tangbe. We can see apple orchards, barley and buckwheat fields, along with red sandy rocks on either side of the dry river banks. Passing Chhusang, we gradually reach Chele (B,L,D).
We begin today’s walk via Eklo Bhatti. We cross Taklam La and get beautiful panoramas of Damodar Kunda, Yakawa and Tilicho peaks. Then we trek down to Samar village and gradually follow the trail that leads us to the stream. Walking through the Juniper woods, we have a chance to see the Ramchung cave and reach Syangbochen. We begin crossing Yamda La (3,850m) and pass small Tibetan settlements. Walking further, we cross the Nyi Pass (4,010m). The scenery is outstanding with multi-colored views of barley and buckwheat fields. Walking through the fields, we reach Ghyami for our overnight stay. (B,L,D).
We gradually walk through the Ghyami Khola bank. Crossing the stream, we ascend to the top of the hill, passing a long range of sacred Mani walls. We can assume this region is a spiritual area of Tibetan Buddhism. We reach Charang for our overnight stay. (B,L,D).
We walk through Charang Chu canyon before descending to the river. Breathtaking views of Annapurna 1, Bhrikuti, Nilgiri and Tilicho peaks can be seen during our walk. We climb to the Lo pass, offering a spectacular view of Lo-Manthang as we approach our destination. (B,L,D).
This is the cultural highlight of our trip as we explore the town’s ancient monasteries amid the colorfully painted stone walls and mountainous landscape. We see the Namgyal, Tingkhar, Thugchen and Chyodi gompas with their wonderful monasteries, allowing you to see the ancient civilization and lifestyle of Tibetan Buddhism. Various caves and flowery fields just outside the town add to the charm of Lo-Manthang. (B,L,D).
Retracing from Lo-Manthang, we move towards Drakmar. During the trek, we can get the attractions of Ghar Gompa that was built over 1200 years ago. It is popular as the wish fulfilling monastery and Guru Rinpochhe is worshipped as a major figure. The paintings on rocks and prayer flags are superb. Then we walk through the stunning landscape facing the dusty wind and reach Drakmar. Overnight at lodge.
We start early to reduce our exposure to mid-day winds and dust. The trail is flat and relatively easy. We take a rest after we reach to Ghiling. (B,L,D).
After some initial ups and downs we descend steadily to Chhusang, stopping for lunch at Chele. (B,L,D).
It’s the last day of our trek. We have lunch at Kagbeni and then join the Annapurna Circuit Trail to finish our trek in Jomsom. If you want to visit the Muktinath temple, we recommend you add an extra day. (B,L,D).
Fly to Pokhara (half-day sightseeing)We take an early-morning scenic flight to Pokhara, where you are free to either shop and dine on your own or see more sights with your guide. (B,L,D).
From Pokhara, we take a bus for about 6 hours to Kathmandu, or you can fly for an added cost. Arriving in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. We would like to celebrate your successful adventure with a farewell dinner. (B,L,D).
